NB! A certificate of incapacity for work is issued after an examination or communication with an insured person or person they are caring for. The health care professional opens and terminates the certificate of incapacity for work on the exact day the health care service is provided, and transmits the data electronically to the database of the Health Insurance Fund on the same day. The certificate can be opened retroactive only in exceptional circumstances – if the insured person falls ill or the need for care arises on a weekend, national holiday or public holiday and the person informs the health care professional via appointment or communication on the following working day or if the incapacity to work has been documented by another health care service provider (e.g. ambulance, emergency room).
